Hero Award
The Maryland Foundation for Psychiatry, Inc. established the Hero Award in 2021:
- Given to an individual who, in the judgment of the Board of the Maryland Foundation for Psychiatry, provided outstanding help or care to psychiatric patients under very difficult circumstances, e.g. when nobody else was doing it, or as a volunteer outside the person’s usual practice community during a natural or manmade disaster.
- Typically awarded to someone who helped psychiatric patients in Maryland but could also be awarded to someone from Maryland who helped psychiatric patients in another state or locale.
The award consists of an engraved plaque or similar object honoring the recipient.
This is not an annual award; it is given only when a majority of Maryland Foundation for Psychiatry Board Members vote to honor an individual for extraordinary service.
The award is presented by the Maryland Foundation for Psychiatry at the Annual Meeting of the Maryland Psychiatric Society.
